Viking Quest

It's AD 793, Norway. My chief heard of the monastery of Lindisfarne, and he issued a challeng to us. The first of us to return to Norway with the treasure will be richly rewarded.
First of all, I decided to take the loan, because I'll need money if I want to be the first to take the treasure. Secondly, I chose Kaupang as my settlement, as it's the nearest village to my destiny and the population is large and skilled. Thridly, I chose "Dragon" as my longship. I wasn't going to need a very big ship, as I was supposed to arrive quickly and one of the big ships takes a lot to get built. Fourthly, I didn't spend the money to reduce construction time, because that ship doesn't take so much time to get built. Fifthly, I hired navigators, sail-makers and carpenters. Finally, I chose the coastal route, because is safer.
Before starting my quest, I decided to consult the runes by casting the runes. They told me this:
"Your warriors are prepared for battle, and Tyr will watch over you as you face the enemy.
Thor tells me you may be fortunate on your journeybut you will still face challenges ahead.
Njord is standing by to guide your longship but you and your crew must remain vigilant at all times."
I started the voyage, and the only problem I encountered was a stormy weather that damaged a bit my ship. I arrived to Lindisfarne, and I beached my ship at "Location One", because is ell-hidden, even if we'll need to walk a lot to arrive to the monastery.
My warriors fighted for the monastery. My 29 warriors encountered 39 monks and killed 30. I only lost 10 warriors. I found 415 silver coins, 16 artefacts and 8 monks. I took the treasure, and I decided to not burn the monastery, because another viking may return later.
Before leaving, I repaired the ship. During the voyage, I encountered another stormy weather.
Finally, I arrived to Norway. I had 365 silver coins, 16 religious artefacts and 8 slaves. My ship took 5 months to build, the whole journey took 17 days and I lost 11 vikings on the raid. The summary is this:
"The pile of silver coins is fair.
The collection of artefacts is impressive.
The number of slaves is good.
Your journey time was solw.
You lost far too mani of your crew.
The chief is pleased that you did not burn down the monastery as his warriors can return to raid Lindisfarne in years to come."
My final score was 668 points and my chief considered me to be an insult to the Viking name.

The goverment should do more to help drug addicts. Do you agree?

Drugs are one of the worst problems in the world. A lot of people die because of that and governments are trying to get solutions.
In the last years drugs problems have increased. The most common drugs are cocaine, heroine, etc and they are consumed by teenagers and older people but nowadays younger people consume it earlier.

Firstly, governments should help drug addicts as they help another people by increasing the taxes although it would be bad for some people and building rehabilitation centres around the country. However there are arguments against that think they are wasting money that we pay to the government because the drug addicts continue taking drugs mostly.

Secondly, other people think that drug addicts have their own lifes and they can do whatever they want with them. It's their problem and if they continue taking drugs no one can help them.

Finally, if drug addicts still consuming drugs, police can find them where they take the drugs to carry them to a rehabilitation centre or to prision because it is ilegal.

We think the better answer to reduce the number of drugs addicts the government should make more rehabilitation centre with people that have been drugs ddicts
"The goverment should do more to help drugs addicts" Do you agree?

In our town the drugs are causing a lot of problems: addicts rob for buy drugs, created problems to the society.... Drugs dealers sell drugs to young people at school's gates and in some streets. They can be agressive if you don't buy them.

We can help them building rehabilitation centres, paying an extra in ours taxs because it could improve our society. Also with these extra taxs we can pay the professional doctors and physiologist that help them and the centres, but it would be "a bit expensive"and not all people want to pay "a bit". In addition we can put more money to pay more security police to control and catch the drugs dealers.

But all these work to help them can not work because sometimes they don't want to be helped
so sometimes we can not do nothing for improve the society and all the money that we spend in that is to do nothing.

In conclusion we think that drugs are a problem to the society and to our lives.
THE GOVERMENT SHOULD DO MORE TO HELP ADDICTS.DO YOU AGREE

The biggest problems in our country are the dealers and the gipsies. The places for buying drugs are the shanty towns, for example Barranquillas,Vallecas...

Goverment should put money for rehabilitations centres for drugs addicts to decrease the number of drug addicts in our country .The goverment musn't give money for drugs and they must put dealers and drugatics in prison.Addicts should be able to register with a chemist to get their drugs. In this way they wouldn´t have to depend on drug dealers.

The goverment mustn´t give money to drug addicts because they will spend it on drugs. These people are just criminals and they must be in prison.

In our opinion drug addicts must be in rehabilitation centres but if they are dealers they must be in prison.

THE GOVERMENT
SHOULD DO MORE
TO HELP DRUGS
ADDICTS?
Nowadays, in Madrid the problems with drugs are increasing,a lot of teenagers about 14 or 15 years old, begin to have drugs addictive problems, because in many pubs and disco,or even at schools gates, drugs dealers sell drugs.
Firstly,we think that should build more rehabilitation centres, because drug addicts need help from everybody because they don't know what are they doing, and the difficults to leave it.
Secondly, in the other hand , we also think that people are responsible of their own acts, and for example if they drink is because they want to do it, and no one can force them to stop doing it.
In addition, in our opinion, drugs dealers take advantages of young people, but people who have drugs problem need the same attention as people who smoke or drink.
Finally,we think that people who need more help are teenagers, because they are too young.
To sum up, we agree that the goverment should do more to help these people, because they are not criminals, they need help, not punishment.
The government should do more to help drug addicts.
Do you agree?

The drug addiction is a big problem in Madrid because there are a lot of drug dealers and the drugs are within reach of young people (teenagers) like in the gates of high schools and in the parks.

Firstly, we're going to say that the government should catch the drug dealers and put them in prison. After that, look for drug addicts and get them to a detoxification centre. Those two things are the most important, but it's also important to give the addicts a job if they haven't one yet, because they must get into the society.
Although the addicts are criminals, they shouldn't go to prison, because the punishment is not the solution for them problem.

They're psychologically ill and they're brain has been attacked by the drugs toxicity. The people who must go to prison are the drug dealers, and they mustn't get out of it never, so the Spanish streets will be a more safe place, because the drug dealers are people dangerous and, sometimes, aggressive and violent.

In conclusion, the addicts just are a victim of this social problem, and the responsible for that are the drug dealers.
The government should do more to help drug addicts. Do you agree?
In Madrid there are many problems related with drugs. Teenagers are more likely than adults to get into them, because they don't get many information and they start for showing off. Normally the most affected areas are poor neighbourhoods like Chueca, Vallecas...
The government has proposed to help drug addicts, but not everyone agree. Firstly, some people think that taking drugs is a crime and drug addicts should be put in prison. Secondly, the think that it's not their problem, so they don't agree spending their money helping these people. Finally, people also think that drug addiction is just an habit, and addicts can give up when they want to.
However, there are people who agrees and think that addicts should have help to give up, like rehabilitation centres or activities to trying forget the drugs and spend time in something more productive, so if this doesn't happens the number of drug addicts will increase a lot. Getting drugs is usually linked to other risky behaviours and addicts become more aggresive, lonely and less sociable.
We agree because we must stop this problem, it's better for everyone. The Government should control more the entrace of drugs and develope an special information programme to show the consecuences by buying or getting drugs. They should also get easier the possiblity of entering in rehabilition centres for addicts.

GOLDEN AGES

So what was the key to the creative outbursts in these cities?
first of all, Athens, Florence and London had a commercial revolution thanks to the commerce and the trade. Merchants and bankers had much money so they were able to pay architects, painters and sculptors to build cathedrals, theaters, monuments...
The reasons because painters, writters, sculptors, etc decided to go to each city are these:
-Athens was the greatest trading center in the Mediterranean.
-But in Florence there was a good and favorable climate and there was social mobility were people of all social statements could find their oportunity.
-In London there was an insatiable demand of new plays
GOLDEN AGES
So what was the key to the creative outburst in these 3 cities? First of all, they all had an economic revolution because of growth, the trade and the industry. They all had in common that they were interested in art and culture like literature and philosophy . They also had very interested builds and scultures and they were very rich cities with a good location.
They were very similar but they had also some differences, for example:
In some places like athens or london they had an aristocrathy society, but in others like florence, it was a social mobility, because it had a lot of money.
Not all the cities had the same arts specialities, for example, in Athens they were very good at philosophy(such as Plato or Socrates), literacy(like Sophocles or Euripides) and medicine, with Hippocrates. In Florence they were good at painters or sculptors, like Leonardo Da Vinci. And in England there were very good poets like Shakespeare.
GOLDEN AGES
So what was the key to the creative outbursts in these three cities?

First of all, Athens, Florence and London were the most important cities because they had a good commerce and industries .

They had important people like painters in Florence, philosophers in Athens and playwrights. They also had new oportunities and ideas for poor people and social mobility because of the economic revolutions.

In these three important cities there were rich people who spent money on culture, painting and literature.

And finally, the people of these three cities thought that culture and religion were very important and spent lots of money and time in that things.
GOLDEN AGES

So what was the key to the creative outburst in these three cities?
First of all, Florence, Athens and London, were very rich and important cities.
In this cities there were very importants celebrities and playwrights like Sophocles, Aeschylus and Euripides; because in this cities they were a lot of money and a lot of commerce.

These cities were more important than the others because of their central positions and they were the richest cities. They had big bussines because economic and commercial revolution took place there.

Golden Ages

So what was the key to the creative outbursts in these three cities? First of all, the three golden ages were created by an economic revolution that took place in these cities, that where rich, caused by an economic growth of these places. It was caused because of the trading, the industry and the new ways of commerce. Some important reasons/causes for these golden ages are the culture, the literature, the economy and the philosophy. We're talking about three golden ages: In London, in Florence and in Athens. The first one(London) was based on creativity and on all forms of literature(Shakespeare). The second one(Florence) was based on the art and scultures(Da Vinci, Donatello...) and the third one(Athens) was based on the philosophy and on literature(Herodotus, Sophocles...). This one was very important for the democracy.

We can improve this countries giving them some money for educational programmes for example building schools and training teachers, also we can help building hospitals, training doctors and nurses and vaccinating children. We can improve them with housing programmes.

We can help this country:

  • Creating hospitals with doctors and nurses and bringing medicines for strange and dangerous sicknesses like malaria.
  • Doing schools and sending some people to teach the children.
  • Preparing people and houses with security for the floods because of the dies.
  • Exporting their productions, like bananas.
  • Putting a telephone companies to be in contact and make safe roads with cebra crossing to avoid dies.
  • Protection the endangered species and a lot of contaminated rivers and lakes.

AID PROGRAM FOR
THE IMAGINARY COUNTRY
We think the most important is to make an education programme for the young people to be able to have a job and earn money. If it's well organised the country will have more founds to develop the economy. Also another important thing is to build schools(for the education programme), hospitals and health centers. In this way, it could be a very good project to build the airport, that is destroyed. The buildings(houses) should be built in a high alture with the intention of avoid the floods. It would be a succesful profit the exportation of the bananas, that are a resource that the country don't need in a big quantity.
Aid programme for a poor country

We think the priority is an education programme for the young people to become productive members of the society.
The solution to this problem will be building new schools.

Also we think the health is important for every people. The solution will be hospitals and medicines.

We think it would be necessary more production of bananas with better farms.

It will be necessary too new pavimented roads.

THE END
HELP THE COUNTRY

*For the education we should build more secondary schools.

*For the natural disasters we can make a health programe with more medicins hospitals doctors.....

*For the housing we should make a housing programe because many houses are damaged by floods.

*We should build one bigger industry.

*To improve the comunications we need to repair the airpot and add more telephones.

*And they can use the renewable energy.
Imaginary country

This country have a lot of population and that's a problem because there isn't enough money for all the people. In fact, if there are more people the money would decrease.
It's difficult to communicate in this country because there isn't so much modern technology and the roads are very muddy.
The soil is very poor and difficult to plant something there.
There is only a 40% literacy rate because there aren't so much schools and people can't pay them.
There isn't so much medicine for sick people because they don't have hospitals and the installations are very poor.
Many houses have been damaged by natural disasters like bad floods and earthquakes. There are several endangered species, and the main river and lake are polluted by the chemical factory.

THOUGHTS ON BLOGGING:

We enjoy doing our homework on the blog. There are some blogs very furnished but maybe the theme is not interesting for girl like football and others with themes for girls and that boys normally aren't interested in.what we mean is that blogs must be for girl and boys. We think the blog of the month is Carlos` blog because it is very furnished but not because the theme.
THOUGHTS OF BLOGGING:
It's difficult to do links...
But it's fun because we learn more things and we can see more news...
In my opinion, blogs are more completed and likeful to watch them.
And when you're having fun with the blog ,you learn more English.
What we like more are the web pages' links.
We can win if we work hard and the things we can do without using Spanish.
MªCRUZ-ANA-LAURA
We think the best blog is Brazlian footballers because it has too many widgets, like music radio, calendars, games, etc.
It has won because he know how to put widgets and he spend a lot of time to do it at the computer.
Now we are going to add so many things because we have learnt so much today.

Thoughts on Bloggin'
We have enjoyed a lot the blogging because we think we've got a lot out of it. We think that the rest of the class have enjoyed it too because we can see them very interested in it. The thing of the blog that we prefer is the RSS because you can watch news without getting out of the blog you are watching and the thing we hate is the writing because ts tiring. We think the Brazillian Footballers Blog is the best but it has got one error... COPY + PASTE. It's so funny because we learn English while we're using the computer.
We could win by working a lot.

Saturday 24th March Class Activities

Do 1 to 6 in your own time. Work at your own speed. It is not a race.

If you need help please ask either Carlos, David or Jaime.

1. Find 2 web pages that you want to link to your blogs and then create the links.

2. Find 2 different web pages for which you want to create RSS feeds and then add them to your blogs.

3. Add some music to your blogs.

4. Move your elements around so that you are happy with how they look.

5. When you have finished this add a 'blog profile' element to your blogs. This should say what you are writing about and why, and what kind of things your blogs include e.g. videos, profiles etc.

6. If you have finished and everybody else is still working, look at some of the class blogs and add comments to the posts that you find interesting.

And finally (when Lee says)...

7. Steve and I would very much like to hear your thoughts on blogging. Have you both enjoyed setting up your own blogs? Do you think other people in the class have? Why (not)? What do you like most and what do you like least? Whose blogs do you like the most and why? What can you both do to win the best blog prize this month?

The title should be 'Thoughts on Blogging'. It should be done on the Senior 5 blog.
